Argentina’s presidential office said on Wednesday that President Javier Milei had made the decision to prohibit treatments and gender change surgeries for minors, as well as impose limits on trans women that are housed within women’s prisons. According to his office, Milei, a libertarian of the extreme right, will decree that the prisoners will stay in accordance with their gender registered at the time of committing the crime.

Regardless of this, he said, no trans women will stay in a women’s prison if he is declared guilty for sexual crimes, human trafficking or violent crimes against women.

The office did not give details about how many trans women were in women’s prisons or convicted of such crimes, nor said how change would affect intersex people, born with non -binary biological characteristics.

The announcement occurred shortly after an American judge blocked an executive order that President Donald Trump signed his first day in the position that would transfer the 16 trans women housed in women’s prisons to men’s institutions and ended his Attention affirming gender. Most trans women in the United States are in male prisons.

Milei’s office added that the Government would modify a 2012 law that allows people to change their gender identity, including the prohibition of hormonal treatment and surgery for children.

“The gender ideology taken to the extremes and applied to children by force or psychological coercion clearly constitutes child abuse,” said the office in a statement.

Gender surgeries are rarely carried out in children in Argentina, and trans transactions should generally be evaluated and medically diagnosed before starting puberty blockers or hormonal therapies.

The announcement occurs days after thousands of Argentines protested in favor of LGBT+ rights after Milei delivered a speech in Davos, Switzerland, in which he questioned “feminism, diversity, inclusion, abortion, environmentalism and Gender ideology “, calling progressive policies a” cancer that “that” is “that” is “that” cancer that is “that” that “is” that “is” that “that” is “That” is “that” is “that” is “that” cancer that “that” is “must be removed”.

“The president cannot modify a law by decree. And if he tries to go to the Judiciary and the Inter -American Court if necessary,” said the Argentine Federation LGBT+ in X, noting that the existing law does not allow gender surgery for minors for minors.
