Disienting the reports of celebrating “advisory meetings” with supporters, Gobichettipalayam Aiadmk Mla Ka Sengottaiyan clarified that party officials visited their residence only to invite him to public meetings planned on the occasion of former Prime Minister MG Ramachandran 108th anniversary of birth.
In a brief interaction with the mediators outside their residence in Kullampalayam, Sengottaiyan said that party officials wanted to invite him to meetings organized in Gobichettipalayam and Anthiyur on Wednesday (February 12, 2025) and Thursday (February 13).
The celebration did not take place on January 17, since the Code of Model Conduct (MCC) was in its place due to the Bypoll of the Erode Assembly (EAST).
“It was not an advisory meeting,” said Mr. Sengottaiyan, adding that he gets 100 to 200 visitors every day. The former Aiadmk minister is now the secretary of the party of the party in Erode Suburban (west).
The absence of Mr. Sengottaiyan in an organized congratulations ceremony to implement the Avinashi-Atinahikadavu project, attended Fight against urban struggles. Nor had he participated in the virtual inauguration of Aiadmk’s office in Delhi, made in Chennai.
The Aiadmk MLA had clarified that no “boycott” the congratulation ceremony, but “decided not to participate” because the invitation and banners did not present the photos of the former main ministers MG Ramachandran and J. Jayalithaa. Police personnel were deployed for security outside their residence on Tuesday night due to the controversy.
On Wednesday, the Superior Court of Madras raised its stay in the Electoral Commission of India’s procedures on the party leadership dispute. After the verdict, several officials reached the residence of Mr. Sengottaiyan while he was out. Soon, the reports began to circulate that the former minister planned a meeting with his supporters, which led him to issue the clarification.
