Class 10 (SSLC) exams in Karnataka this year will be carried out under the surveillance of artificial intelligence CCTV cameras (AI), which will mark bad practices or irregularities in the exam centers. This is a step ahead of the web transmission of the exam process carried out in 2024.

Pilot project

However, not all exam centers will be monitored by CCTV cameras with AI. The Karnataka School Evaluation and Evaluation Board (KSEAB) has decided to install them in centers identified as “sensitive” and “hypersensitive” throughout the state and all centers in the educational districts of Bengaluru Norte and South.

“Kseab will carry out a pilot project soon in collaboration with Microsoft, which will provide personalized software for the surveillance of exam centers looking for bad practices,” said HN Gopalakrishna, director of Kseab.

The SSLC exam -1 of the year 2024-25 will begin on March 21, 2025. Compared to previous years, the number of students who have registered for exams, more than 9 Lakh, this is more.

A step ahead

During the 2023 SSLC exams, many students were disbursed and more than 60 vigiladers suspended for bad practices. In 2024, the KSEAB introduced the web transmission of the examination of all the centers, which was said that it led to a severe fall in the results that pushed the Board to provide grace brands, which indicates how frequent the irregularities in these exams were frequent .

However, the Board had to appoint staff to monitor the Live webcast to mark bad practices, which is not only tedious and cumbersome, but also requires huge human resources. The process is also manual, which allows errors and discretion. To eliminate this from the monitoring process, Kseab is choosing AI to monitor web transmission.

How it works

The AI software will mark bad practices or any irregularity, fed to the software before, from video feed. If the system recognizes any irregularity, a report on the same photographs and video cuts to the head of the exam center will be sent immediately, the attached commissioners of the districts and the president of Kseab, among other officials. Officials can hurry immediately to the place, avoid irregularities and take appropriate measures against the culprit.
