The Amala Institute of Medical Sciences has opened a state-of-the-art Integrated Medical Research Department. The Governor of Maharashtra C.P. Radhakrishnan formally inaugurated it on Saturday (March 15, 2025).

Speaking at the function, Mr. Radhakrishnan stressed the importance of collaborative research in tackling contemporary health issues. “The pandemic has underscored the need for rapid, coordinated, and innovative responses to public health crises. By fostering integration across disciplines, we can accelerate the development of personalised treatments, improve patient outcomes, and minimise side effects,” he said.

The event also marked the observance of Research Day at the institution during which 25 researchers from Amala were honoured for their contributions to medical science. Integrated medical research represents a multidisciplinary approach to addressing complex health challenges by combining expertise from diverse fields. While traditional medical education and research have primarily focused on specialised areas such as surgery, pharmacology, and pathology, the evolving landscape of modern healthcare necessitates a more holistic perspective, according to the Amala sources.

The newly launched department aims to bridge the gap between basic research, such as laboratory studies, and clinical research, including patient trials, ensuring that scientific discoveries are swiftly translated into practical applications for patient care, they said.
