The Charminar police have arrested a 22-year-old cashier for allegedly misappropriating ₹70 lakh from his employer and using the funds to purchase an illegal firearm and luxury items.

The accused, Ram Swaroop, a cashier and billing operator at Rajlaxmi Textiles (India) Pvt. Ltd. in Rikabgunj, was arrested on March 12, following a complaint by the company’s director Jairam Dewasi.

According to the police, the complaint was lodged on March 10 after Dewasi discovered that Swaroop had allegedly misappropriated approximately ₹70 lakh through fraudulent activities at the company.

Following credible information, the police apprehended Swaroop and, during interrogation, he confessed to using part of the stolen funds to buy a country-made Star mark pistol and five live rounds from Mohan Ram, a resident of Sindhary Village in Rajasthan, for ₹40,000. He also admitted to purchasing two iPhones with the stolen money.

The police have seized the pistol, ammunition, and the mobile phones and remanded Swaroop in judicial custody.

Efforts are under way to trace Mohan Ram, who remains at large.
