Contrary to expectations, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] Pathanamthitta district committee meeting on Wednesday did not discuss the dissent expressed publicly by district secretariat member A. Padmakumar over being denied a spot in the party’s State committee.

With this, the focus now shifts to a meeting of the CPI(M) State secretariat, which is scheduled for Friday. According to sources, the secretariat is likely to take up the issue anda decision on further action may be made.

“We did not discuss Mr. Padmakumar’s statements in today’s district committee meeting. Such matters are usually addressed in meetings attended by State committee leaders. We have already conveyed the issue to the State secretary, but have not yet received any directives on the matter,” said Raju Abraham, CPI(M) district secretary in Pathanamthitta.

Primary focus

According to him, the meeting primarily focused on campaigns against the Union government, including plans to organise protest marches to Central government offices. Mr. Padmakumar was also present at the meeting, he added.

Mr. Padmakumar, a veteran CPI(M) leader from Aranmula, had publicly voiced his dissatisfaction over his exclusion from the State committee. In addition to posting a message on social media, which was later deleted, he also took to the media to register his protest, catching the party off guard.

Following intervention from the party leadership, he later moderated his stance and admitted that voicing his resentment publicly had been a mistake.
