Continuing its crackdown on “illegal” Bangladeshi immigrants in the capital, the Delhi Police’s multiple teams are checking shelter homes, railway tracks, abandoned buildings, DDA parks, scrap dealer sites and speaking to Residents Welfare Associations and Market Welfare Associations.
In one of its raids, the Delhi Police arrested three “illegal” Bangladeshi immigrants from the outer district’s Peeragarhi area.
The arrest was made after the police received an input about a group of Bengali speaking people looking for accommodation in an informal housing in the Peeragarhi camp area, said a senior official.
“The team spotted three individuals making their way towards the Peeragarhi camp, hidden behind the Kali Mata Mandir, conversing in Bengali. Their suspicious behavior didn’t go unnoticed. Swiftly, the authorities intercepted them, and started interrogating them,” said the official.
According to the officer, the three first mentioned that they were residents of West Bengal who were just passing through; but through intensive interrogation, they revealed their real identities.
The police identified the three as Safruddin (36), Ibrahim (38) from Kurigram, northern Bangladesh and Sorab (46), from Barguna, southern Bangladesh.
