Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French president Emmanuel Macron flew from Paris to Marseille on the French presidential plane on Tuesday night. Going to a media conference, Foreign Secretary, Vikram Misri, described it as a symbolic gesture that personifies strong ties of India. In his joint statement, the Ministry of External Affairs mentioned: “In a special gesture that reflects the personal relationship between the two leaders, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Emmanuel Macron flew from Paris to Marseille in the French presidential plane yesterday.”

What does the Joint Declaration of Mea say?

The joint statement adds that PM Modi and Macron maintained discussions about the complete spectrum of bilateral relations and key global and regional problems. Both leaders reaffirmed their strong commitment to the Strategic Association of India-France, which has constantly become a multifaceted relationship in the last 25 years.

Previously, Prime Minister Modi and President Macron jointly opened the new consulate of India in the city of Marseille in France. The inauguration was performed by pressing a button while the crowd chew. Many of these people had come with national flags from India and France, while some wore a tricolor helmet, adding color to the occasion.

PM Visit the Cemetery of Mazargues

Before the inauguration, Modi and Macron visited the historic cemetery of Mazargues and paid tribute to the Indian soldiers who made sacrifices fighting in the Great War. Prime Minister Modi placed a crown composed of tricolium theme flowers in a solemn ceremony held in the Cemetery of Mazargues.

It pays tribute to the soldiers who established their lives fighting as a shoulder with their French counterparts during World War I, modified tribute with folded hands and a gentle arch in the iconic site that also has an ‘Indian monument’.

Later, the two leaders took a walk through the cemetery facilities and placed roses on commemorative tablets installed on a wall inside a stone pavilion in the historic cemetery. A large number of Indian soldiers are commemorated in this war cemetery that maintains the Commonwealth War Gravel Commission (CWGC).
