A tornado that swept a strip of Northcentral Tennessee on Thursday night left a dead mother and daughter and at least three other injured people, since it caused “damage to serious property,” authorities said.
The Emergency Management and National Security Agency of Morgan County He said on Facebook that the two were from the “same house.”
The agency said the possible tornado hit the areas of Deer Lodge and Sunbright.
The National Meteorological Service said that a team would send to determine if the severe climate reached the status of Tornado.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the loved ones and beings of those affected by this tragic event,” he added.
Citing Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, CBS Knoxville Affiliate WLVT-TV reported that more than a dozen houses were damaged or destroyed.
Captain Stacey Heatherly, from the Tennessee road patrol, told the station that he had sent 30 soldiers to Morgan County to help.
“At this time we have the strike team activated to make sure to help the Morgan County Sheriff’s office,” he said. “That is our mission, to make sure we can help.”
Aaron Evans, who is in the Sheriff’s office, said that local lifeguards, county and state, together with the emergency personnel of multiple agencies and counties, were carrying out in search and rescue operations.
A representative of the city of Oak Ridge told WVLT News that the city’s fire department was also sending resources and helps Morgan’s county.
An emergency operations center was established, and electricity, telephone and internet communications were affected, he added.
