Geneva:
More than 10,000 aid trucks have crossed Gaza since a high fragile fire seized January 19, the United Nations Humanitarian Chief said Thursday.
“We have moved more than 10,000 trucks in the two weeks from Alto El Fuego, a mass increase,” Tom Fletcher said in X.
The Undersecretary General of Humanitarian Affairs and the Emergency Release Coordinator added that he was “about to cross north of Gaza with a help convoy.”
“Thanks to the many people who make it possible to obtain these trucks of food, medicines and vital tents and who save lives,” he said.
Their comments occur when Israel and Hamas are preparing to negotiate the second phase of the high the fire agreement, which has stopped 15 months of implacable fighting and bombing, unleashed after the deadly attack of October 7 of Hamas of 2023.
That attack resulted in the death of 1,210 people on the Israeli side, mostly civilians, according to an AFP count based on official Israeli figures.
The reprisal response of Israel has killed at least 47,518 people in Gaza, most of them civilians, according to the Ministry of Health of the Territory of Hamas. The UN considers that these figures are reliable.
With only a drip of help in the territory before the high -fire agreement, international aid organizations repeatedly reported levels of crisis hunger in the Gaza Strip and warned the imminent famine.
The truce has led to a wave of food, fuel, doctors and others helps Gaza, and allowed people displaced by the war to return to the north of the Palestinian territory.
Under the first phase of 42 days of the truce of Gaza, 18 hostages have been released so far in exchange for about 600 prisoners mostly Palestinians from Israeli prisons.
