Belonging to the fishing community of the Nagayalaank village in the Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh, Gayathri’s event with sports began in an unlikely place, in the mat. As an eighth grade student, Taekwondo took, a sport that sharpened his reflexes and instilled in the mentality of a fighter. But even when he stood out, something else made it signaled: the indomitable energy of water.

Growing up in Nagayalanka, a fishing village, it was no stranger to the river. He had seen the water in all his moods: calm and welcoming at dawn, fierce and indomitable during the Monzones. Gayathri soon joined the Watersport academy in Nagayalaank, and it was a turning point in his life. His efforts were fruits when he emerged as a medalist of Khelo India, preparing the stage for larger achievements. But it was in the 38th National Games that announced its arrival. Compeating in the challenging Slalom K1 event, Gayathri showed his technical skill.
