Johannesburg:
Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, a daughter of former South African president Jacob Zuma, appeared in court on Thursday after being accused of inciting violence during riots in 2021 in which more than 300 people were killed.
A lawyer from Zuma-Sambudla said he would declare himself innocent.
Prosecutors claim that Zuma-Sambudla prompted others to commit acts of violence in publications on social networks in July 2021, when he broke out the disturbances after his father was arrested for disobeying a court order to testify in a corruption investigation .
What began as angry at the Zuma prison became anger on poverty and inequality, which led to the looting of thousands of stores, damages extensive to the public infrastructure and the death of some 350 people.
The financial damage of the riots was estimated at 50 billion Rand ($ 2.70 billion).
It was released in a warning until another appearance in the court scheduled for March.
After his contempt sentence for the Court ended in 2022, Zuma supported a new Umkhonto We Sizwe (MK) political party, which was a great disruptor in the national elections last year.
MK won 58 parliamentary seats, contributing to a strong fall in the support of the African National Congress (ANC) that Zuma used to lead. The ANC was forced to a wide coalition with a large number of other smaller parties.
Zuma-Sambudla is one of the MK legislators in the House of Representatives of Parliament.
