India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, said Wednesday that the Indian team is still waiting for clarity about Jasprit Bumrah’s injury and its availability for the next Champions Trophy in Dubai. Bumrah had suffered a back injury in the fifth test of the border trophies-gasskar series in Australia. Although it was included in the Odi squad for the England series, with the willingness that it will be available for the third game of the series in Ahmedabad, it was eliminated in silence from the updated team that the BCCI sent after the inclusion of Varun Chakravarthy.
On Wednesday, Rohit clarified that Bumrah has to undergo some scans in the next few days, whose results will clarify about their availability for the third hatred and the subsequent champions trophy.
“We are waiting for some scanning reports and once we obtain them, we will have more clarity about Bumrah and if it will be available for the third odi against England,” Rohit said at the press conference prior to the match before the first hate against England in Nagpur .
Although Bumrah’s injury was initially expected to be a lower setback, it turned out to be more serious than expected, and as a result, the rhythm spearhead has been sent to receive treatment to the National Academy of Crickt (NCA) in Bengaluru. Bumrah is currently under treatment there.
Former Captain Ravi Shastri acknowledges that the potential absence of Jasprit Bumrah could severely weaken the Indian team in the Champions Trophy, but advised against Bowler Fast Premier’s return to the national team.
Bumrah suffered spasms in the fifth test against Australia in Sydney in January, and was not played in the second tickets. He has not played for India since then, although it has been included in the initial team for the prestigious Odi tournament.
Bumrah is being rehabilitated in the NCA and is not in the Odi team for the three -game series against England starting Thursday.
Experts in Sports Sciences are expected to provide an update on their physical state to the BCCI after which a call would be taken about the Champions Trophy, which will be carried out in Pakistan and United Arab Emirates.
The opening game is scheduled in Karachi on February 19, while India will play all its games in Dubai.
“Bumrah will not reduce the possibilities of India (to win the Champions Trophy) by 30%, literally by 30-35%,” Shastri said in the last edition of ICC Review.
“With a Bumrah game completely fit, you are guaranteed from those deaths. It would have been a completely different ball game,” said Shastri.
