A diving team in North Carolina recently discovered the remains of a woman who disappeared more than a year ago, authorities said.
The woman, a 33 -year -old mother, Dana Leigh Mustian, disappeared in November 2023 of Warrenton, North Carolina, near the Virginia border, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office saying In a statement. Mustian was last seen on November 30 at his home, according to the Sheriff’s office and the CBS News affiliate WNCN.
The divers found possible human remains while they were looking for Thursday in Vance County, less than 20 miles west of Warrenton, said the sheriff, and pointed out that the State Office of Investigations was also involved in the operation. The North Carolina Forensic Doctor Office confirmed Mustian’s identity. An investigation into his disappearance and death is ongoing, added the Sheriff.
Warren County authorities sent a bulletin of missing persons for Mustian after she disappeared. It included several photographs and descriptions of it, since the authorities sought the help of community members who could have information about their whereabouts. “Dana’s friends and family are worried about their well -being,” said the newsletter.
Initially, Mustian was reported as missing on December 4, 2023, after not appearing at her daughter’s birthday party, WNCN reported, citing officials and her family. The woman had been left at her home in Warrenton by her father the day she saw her last time, telling her at that time that she would see him the next day, according to the news station. His family previously told WNCN that they tried to contact Mustian repeatedly, but his calls went directly to voice mail.
The family of women, friends and others in the community organized searches for Mustian in January 2024, and several official probes took place on land and water the following month, WNCN reported.
