West Bloomfield, Mich. – Three children died in a weekend house fire at the Detroit suburbs, authorities said.
A 16 -year -old girl and two children, 15 and 12, could not escape the fire on Sunday night, said Byron Turnquist, firefighters in the municipality of West Bloomfield.
One of the victims called 911 to inform the fire. Turnquist said that smoke detectors at home did not work.
“Work smoke alarms will give that early notification if there is a problem, and it is very important. Try those smoke alarms, make sure they work, ”said Turnquist.
Firefighters had to break through the house. The cause of the fire was not known immediately.
“There was so much smoke on the street that we couldn’t even breathe, so imagine that the children were at home. I am sure they could not, ”said Jewelette Estes, who lives in the neighborhood.
