Ottawa:

After the president of the United States, Donald Trump, signed an executive order that imposed 25 percent tariff His country has been by his side in the “darkest hours”, either, either. Iran’s hostage crisis and war in Afghanistan, or mortal natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina and the recent Forest Fires in California.

Going to Americans directly from a press conference in Ottawa, Trudeau said he had no choice but to impose countermeasures.

“From the Normandy beaches to the mountains of the Korean Peninsula, from the Flanders fields to the streets of Kandahar, we have fought and died next to you during your darker hours,” Trudeau said. “We have built the most successful economic, military and security association that the world has seen … we are always there, stand with you.”

By pointing out that the United States and Canada have had differences in the past, Trudeau said that both countries always found a way to overcome them.

“As I said before, if President Trump wants to introduce a new golden age for the United States, the best way is to associate with Canada, not punish us,” he said.

“Unfortunately, the actions taken today by the White House separated us instead of joining us,” Trudeau added.

Canada goes back

“Canada will respond to the commercial action of the United States with 25 percent tariff of Canada-United States of long data.

The first rates would go to US products worth $ 30 billion on Tuesday followed by additional rates on products of $ 125 billion in three weeks.

“We are certainly not looking to climb. But we will defend Canada, the Canadians, to Canadian works,” said Trudeau.

He said that the commercial conflict will have “real consequences” for Canadians but also for Americans, who, according to him, will suffer due to the actions of its president.

“Tariffs against Canada will put their works at risk, potentially closing US cars assembly plants and other manufacturing facilities,” said Canadian prime minister to US citizens.

“They will increase costs for you, including food in the grocery store and gas in the pump,” he added.

Tariffs will apply to “everyday items”, such as American beer, wine and bourbon, as well as fruits, vegetables, appliances, wood and plastics, added: “With much, much more.”

Trump’s taxes

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, previously announced broad tariffs about Canada, Mexico and China, citing a threat of illegal immigration and drugs.

Canadian exports to the United States will face a 25 percent rate as of Tuesday, although Canada’s energy resources will have a lower tax of 10 percent.

The border border of US-Canada of 9,000 km (5,600 miles) handles more than $ 2.5 billion in commerce per day, especially in energy and manufacturing, according to data from the Canadian government of 2023.

In 2023, Canada exported about C $ 550 billion in goods and services to the United States, or more than three quarters of its total exports. The energy represented 30 percent and the manufacture contributed around 15 percent to exports to the south of the border.

Exports to the United States represent approximately 17.8 percent of the Gross Canadian domestic product and more than 2.4 million jobs in Canada.
