UDUPI:

Lakshmi, who is said to be the last Maoist in Karnataka, gave up unconditionally on Sunday in front of Udupi’s attached commissioner, Vidya Kumari, and the police superintendent Arun K.

According to the police, Lakshmi, who had been hiding in Andhra Pradesh, has had three cases in the Amasebail and Shankaranarayana police stations in Kundapur Taluk in the Udupi district. These cases date back to 2007-2008, and refer to the exchange of fires with police, assault and pushing Maoist literature in villages and small cities.

Police said Lakshmi originally belonged to Thomattu of Machchattu Village in Kundapura Taluk.

She was accompanied by the member of the State Naxal surrender Committee Sripal and her husband Salim, a former Maoist who had surrendered in 2020 in Andhra Pradesh.

After cutting his connection with his family 15 years ago, Lakshmi had gone to the clandestine and was active to push the Maoist agenda in the districts of Chikkamagaluru and Udupi.

“I tried to get in touch with the district officials and wanted to surrender after the Karnataka government had announced the protocol and the surrender, but had not happened for some reason. Now that the surrender committee was formed, my surrender He has been facilitated, “Lakshmi told journalists after his surrender today.

He thanked Prime Minister Siddaramaiah for the generous surrender package and appealed to the district administration to relieve all the positions presented against her at the police stations in Amasebail and Shankaranarayana in Kundapur Taluk.

DC VIDYA KUMARI said that Lakshmi is under the category ‘A

The category ‘A’ has been called for Naxals that originate in the state of Karnataka, Kumari added.

“The surrender packages will be administered in phases that extend to three years, and also, depending on the central capacity of the naxals that were paid, facilities such as education, rehabilitation and employment will be offered,” added the DC.

Sripal, from the State Performance Committee, told the journalists present that the committee had recommended that the Government eliminated the cases presented against the Maoists delivered, helping them to lead a normal life in society. “Due to the committee’s efforts, 22 Naxal activists have surrendered in 2025 so far and Lakshimi is the last in the state to surrender. Karnataka is now a ‘free of Naxal’,” he said.

By the way, after the surrender of Kotehanda Ravindra in Chikkamagalu on Saturday, the office of the principal minister had issued a press release indicating that Karnataka is a free state of Naxal. He also said that CM Siddaramaiah has announced the medal of the main minister for the team of 22 police and men who strive to make Karnataka a Naxal free state.

Meanwhile, Sripal said that the naxals belonging to Karnataka and Kerala must be provided to face the trial in a unified court, either in Shivamogga, Udupi or Chikkamagaluru or even in the NIA court in Bengaluru. They must also be extended defense tips, he added.
