Kaduthuruthy police arrested two people for allegedly defrauding a Christian priest of ₹ 1.5 million rupees under the pretext of online trade.
Those arrested were identified as Muhammed Minaj and Shamnad, both natives of Thamarassery in Kozhikode. Police said the duo was part of an in -line fraud union based in northern India.
According to the police, the racket attracted the victim with promises from an exorbitant profit margin of 850 percent. Convinced by his statements, the priest borrowed money from friends and family to invest in the fraudulent scheme. The scam took place between November 2024 and January 15 of this year.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim’s collected funds were channeled in bank accounts in northern India. Other consultations confirmed that they had retired ₹ 1.40 Lakh of several ATMs in Kerala. This discovery led the police to locate and arrest the duo.
A probe is performed to track the remaining defendant in the case.
