Realme Pad 2 review: an elegant update that covers the basics

Since its debut in 2018, Realme has only launched two tablet devices so far. The Realme Pad 2 is the second brand table and comes with some improvements related to performance and design on the previous model. It also adds cell connectivity to the mixture, which makes it a unique offer in the sub-RS. Segment of 20,000 tablets, which consists mainly of economic tablets that lack this characteristic. There is also a faster load and a quick 120 Hz update screen. More importantly, the base variant is also equipped with 6 GB of RAM and its software has been optimized for a wide screen experience. But, Realme has reduced the corners to deliver a tablet at this competitive price, and can the recently launched Redmi pad when it comes to value? Let’s find out.

Realme Pad 2 Price in India

The base variant of Realme Pad 2 has a price of RS. 19,999 in India and gets 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. The upper end variant offers 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage and has a price of RS. 22,999. Both variants offer LTE connectivity as standard, so the highest price on the previous model is justified, especially when you consider the other updates it offers.

Realme Pad 2 Design

The tablet is available in two finishes: gray imagination and green inspiration. As you can say, Realme points to both products in young people, and the vibrant green unit we receive to review is refreshing despite the fact that it seemed a bit similar to the air of the Oppo pad in terms of construction and materials used.

The cuts for speaker grilles seem quite discreet and minimalists

The Realme Pad 2 has a metal frame with flat sides and a chassis with a polycarbonate insert that occupies approximately a quarter of the rear surface. The plastic band is located in the upper half of the device (when it is maintained horizontally) and stretches from edge to edge (including the frame) with the large camera module placed at one end. The insert conveniently hides all the necessary antennas for radio communications below. The protuberance of the camera, although prominent, does not stand out much and does not make the tablet staggered when placed on a flat surface.

Since there are no joints or antenna gaps due to this minimalist design approach, it ends up feeling quite premium and is also quite thin (7.2 mm). I also liked the perforations for the four speakers that are also minimal and discreet. There is a large 11.5 -inch LCD screen with a thin bezel with rounded corner cuts, which are mixed well with the Realme software interface.

Like the previous model, the Realme Pad 2 does not come with optional accessories either. It is not clear why the PAD does not even have a basic Kickstand folio cover, but this suggests that the brand does not expect its tablet to be used for anything other than a media consumption device. And since there is no case or an optional support, this meant that I always had to keep the tablet up or at an angle when seeing content or navigating through its interface. With a weight of 518 g, it was exhausted to hold this tablet at the required angle, especially while watching movies or programs.

Realme Pad 2 Specifications and Software

The Realme Pad 2 works with a 6NM Helio Hellatek G99 SOC and has been available on several economic devices for a while. This list of devices also includes the Redmi pad, which is the main competitor of this device. The communication standards include Wi-Fi AC, Bluetooth 5.2, support for several LTE bands and the usual global satellite positioning systems.

There is no headphone outlet for those who wish to connect. But you get a SIM card tray that has space for a SIM card and a microSD card, with support for up to 1 TB of storage. The tablet has a battery of 8,360 mAh that can be loaded using the 33W charger provided in the box.

For a sub rs. 20,000 tablets also surprised me a bit to see any form of safe biometric authentication. Like the previous model, Realme Pad 2 also lacks a digital footprint reader and the only way to unlock the device without writing a password code is to use the 2D face unlock. While this is not a safe means to unlock any personal device, it worked well in most lighting conditions, except in pitch’s darkness.

Realme Pad 2 is able to show up to three applications at the same time

An improvement on the oldest royal pad would be its software interface. It is not a ‘lite’ version or a regular actual interface version that is found in some of its input level devices that also included the previous model. The new Realme Pad 2 receives the complete treatment with all the customization features that one would expect from its smartphones, and some more. This includes a lower dock that shows fixed and recent applications that are active in the background. However, the usefulness of this dock is limited to the home screen, since it is not available or can be called anywhere else in the interface or stops on third -party applications.

The Realme Pad 2, unlike most other real devices and tablets at this price, did not load with Bloatware and only had a pre -installed third parties (Facebook) application, which can be uninstalled.

Despite not having officially compatible accessories, this optimized version of the Realme UI tablet has full tactile pad support (in additional configurations) with full support for the gestures that one would perform in a regular trackpad. There are also usual such as the ability to run two applications on the screen divided with an additional application that can be started in an emerging window, allowing one to have three applications at the same time.

Realme Pad 2 Performance

A multiple task may be performed on this tablet. I could keep the five open Chrome tabs along with the YouTube application that shows reels next to the other in divided screen mode. It is also possible to open a floating window while doing all this and the system seems to handle it well, with a little delay when drawing long web pages.

Regardless of the software performance of this tablet, which was good for a budget table, I liked the appearance relationship of this wide screen. It is ideal to consume content and is wide enough to run screen applications divided next to each other. Fortunately, Realme has included support for Widevine L1 that allowed me to transmit and enjoy Full-HD video content on this tablet. Outdoor visibility is good, but the screen loses the contrast when seen at an angle. At the same time, the screen is not the most clear (given its resolution and size) and its high refreshing rate system becomes quite broken from time to time when moving or when passing between video and applications.

As for the reference points, the tablet worked as expected management scores that were on par with the budget smartphones at this price. The Realme Pad 2 scored 4,29,907 points in Antutu, together with 726 and 1,975 points in the individual and multiple nuclei of Geekbench. In terms of graphics, the tablet managed 25 FPS, 55 FPS and 15 FPS in the Manhattan 3.1, T-Rex and Car Chase of GFXBENCH test, respectively.

The Realme Pad 2 screen is the largest among its competitors, but it is not the most acute

MediaTak Helio G99 is not a performance power, but it is good enough to run the day to day. This makes this tablet more suitable for casual games than graphic heavy titles despite having an update screen of 120 Hz. minor.

What I liked about the experience and video display experience was the sound that has improved on the simplest dual speakers configuration in the previous model. The sound is definitely stronger and more immersive compared to the previous model. The tablet is also equipped with Dolby Atmos support.

The Realme Pad 2 has a 5 megapixel rear camera and an 8 megapixel front camera. As expected, the primary shooter offers a basic image quality below the average detail, but closer to natural colors. The textures even in full daylight were mostly flat, so it is better to shoot with any smartphone camera available at this price.

Front camera selfies show low details and flat textures. This camera is more suitable for video calls, since it did a good job when handling the background exhibition when recording videos, which is useful when placing video calls.

The battery life is quite solid for a budget tablet. In our standard battery loop video test, Realme Pad 2 achieved 26 hours and 13 minutes impressive. With or without a SIM card inside, you can easily last about 2 days with a heavy use and 3 days with casual use, which is good for a thin tablet. The addition of LTE connectivity also means that it is a reliable road warrior that can provide uninterrupted entertainment (for OTT applications) or connectivity (videoconde, etc.) when it is moving. Its largest battery also means that it will last much longer than any smartphone in your pocket.

As for the load, the 33W charger managed to load the tablet at 33 percent in 30 minutes and 62 percent in one hour, completing the load in 1 hour and 36 minutes, which is not bad for a tablet.

Verdict

From a broader point of view, Realme Pad 2 remains the same in terms of form and function as the previous model. It is better used as a media consumption device and nothing else. Realme lost the opportunity to use the tablet as a light productivity device by not starting a keyboard accessory with it. Nor can you use a scribble, because it also offers optical pencil support.

However, the Realme Pad 2 is based on the weaknesses of its predecessor and manages to be a kind of off -road by adding high speed of refreshing, an updated processor and cellular connectivity to its set of characteristics. In RS. 19,999, it is difficult to get something like that in the market. Its closest competition includes the REDMI pad (review) and the air of the Oppo pad (review) that can have a slightly lower price, but lacks cellular connectivity and has smaller screens and batteries.
