The contraction of the eyes is a movement or spasm of the eyelid or the muscles of the eye that can‘be controlled. There are different types of eyes contraction. Each type of contraction has a different cause.
The most common type of eye contraction is called mykimia. This type of contraction or spasm is very common and happens to most people at some point. It can involve the upper or lower eyelid, but generally only one eye at the same time. The contraction of the eye can vary from barely notable to irritating. The contraction generally disappears in a short time, but it could happen again for a few hours, days or more.
Another type of ocular contraction is known as benign essential blefarospasm. The Benign Essential Blefarospasm begins as an increase in the flickering of both eyes and can lead to the eyelids. This type of contraction is rare, but it can be extremely severe, which affects all aspects of life.
Hemifacial spasm is a type of contraction that involves muscles on one side of the face, including the eyelid. The contraction can start around your eye and then extend to other parts of the face.
