As Immigration and Customs Application Nears They have been launched at the beginning of the Trump administration, multiple raids in cities in the United States have been filmed and very publicized. The newly confirmed secretary of National Security, Kristi Noem, says that the purpose of registering the raids is to create a “measure of responsibility.”
“It’s not a show,” he told CBS News. “This is the application of the Law of our Nation: Judicial Process. Justice scales are also applied to all. We want transparency in this. I think this is a measure of responsibility.”
Within the ICE field office in Manhattan on Tuesday, the agency’s ranks were extended by other agencies, including Noem, now ordered by the Trump administration. The plan was to carry out multiple raids prior to the one directed to undocumented immigrants with criminal records, with positions ranging from murder to theft and kidnapping. The short -term objective is 500 arrests for a One week operation in New York.
One of the objectives of Tuesday’s raids was a member of the Venezuelan and suspect national gang of the colored gang in multiple orders of severe crime due to kidnapping, robbery and a crime with firearms, according to the authorities.
Around 5:30 am, strongly armed agents raided an apartment building in the Bronx and found the suspect and three other male associates. All were handcuffed without incident. There were also three children in the apartment, but their immigration status was not known immediately. The authorities will now verify whether they have a caregiver or if child protection services must be brought.
The next stop was a residence less than two miles away. After some negotiations, the officers entered, but they were empty because their goals were not at home.
The Federal Police is working with limited help from the New York City Police Department due to the laws of the city that protect undocumented immigrants. The Mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, has cooperated with ICE and DHS.
“I talked to him on the phone four or five times last night, and how one of these people was so dangerous, and that we needed the backup of the New York Police to be there in case things went to the south,” Noem said.
Tuesday’s Bronx operation required about three dozen law enforcement agents that produced a handful of arrests. Noem said it is a proportion with which he feels comfortable.
“I will not hesitate what they need for support and support,” he said.
Vice President JD Vance has suggested deporting one million undocumented migrants annually, a little less than four times the number deported by the administration biden the last fiscal year. But it is not clear that the DHS will have the labor to carry it out.
“We are working on it,” said Noem.
“We will have the staff because we will continue recruiting and asking people to help us,” he added.
