The speakers of all political parties supported the state government in their opposition to the new regulations of the University Subsidies Commission.

The Minister of Higher Education, Govi Chezhian, asked the students to send an email to the UGC against their new regulations that have brought a new set of rules for the appointment of Vice Chancellor and teachers.

At a meeting on Tuesday, organized by Tamilnadu Editors Guild here, Mr. Chezhian said the state had the greatest number of doctorates in the country. He said that the prime minister has taken several measures to maintain the autonomy of the State and its institutions. He assured the speakers in the event that he took their demands to the main minister.

Mr. Chezhian said that people like him, belonging to the Adi Dravidar community, were educated due to the political struggle to guarantee equality for the socially disadvantaged sections of society.

One of the demands was that students in universities should be allowed to participate in politics.

The educator Jayaprakash Gandhi suggested that the government of the Union should consider giving autonomy in the development of educational policies to the State, which is home to 22 of the 100 universities classified with Nirf and has 6% of higher educational institutions in the country . He wondered if there was a political reason to introduce recent regulations.

Kancheepuram DMK MLA CVMP Ezhilarasan said the youth wing will place posters in all universities to create a movement against regulations. PMK leader, Ganesh Kumar and Vck Mla Shah Nawaz, said their parties would support the government to stop efforts to introduce new regulations.

The advisor of former President Apj Abdul Kalam Ponraj accused that the Government of the Union had systematically privatized government organizations to favor private entities.
