China Chatbot Depseek has made waves in Silicon Valley, impressive investors and experts in the industry with their ability to match the skills of its western competitors to a cost fraction. The innovative AI model is surpassing the leading AI players such as Chatgpt, Gemini and Claude AI. The chatbot has catapulted the upper part of the Apple App Store lists and has overcome the chatgpt, while sending waves through the United States stock market.

This development has generated a significant interest in the technological world, especially after the company revealed its surprisingly low operating costs.

From hobby to market disruptor: the man behind Depseek shaking US actions

Deepseek was founded at the end of 2023 by Liang Wenfeng, a Chinese administrator of coverage funds. Liang has quickly become a key figure in the AI space, making comparisons with Sam Altman, the OpenAi CEO. Its coverage fund, high-flyer, focuses on the research and development of AI, which helps feed the rapid increase in Deepseek.

In 2021, he began buying thousands of Nvidia chips as part of a parallel project of AI, then launched Depseek in 2023.

According Fortune Magazine, The founder of Deepseek, Liang Wenfeng, does not conform to the profile of an artificial intelligence pioneer that is common in popular imagination. Unlike Operai CEO, Sam Altman, for example, is not a Silicon Valley businessman.

Instead, Liang comes from the world of finance. After graduating from the University of Zhejiang, he co-founded the quantitative High-Flyer coverage fund in 2015 and incorporated AI in its commercial strategies to predict market trends and help make investment decisions.

According to him Financial Times, He began buying thousands of Nvidia graphics processors in 2021 before the Biden administration began to limit US chip exports from AI to China, as a secondary project of AI. At that time, the acquaintances saw him as a peculiar hobby that did not seem to go anywhere.

“When we met him, he was this very nerd guy with a terrible hairsty FOOT. “He could not articulate his vision apart from saying: ‘I want to build this, and it will be a change of play.’ We thought that this was only possible of giants such as Bytedance and Alibaba.”
