A team of officials from the Income Tax Department registered the houses and offices of some industrialists and entrepreneurs in Belagavi on January 28.
They included Vinod Doddanvavar and Pushpadant Doddanvavar, Ashok Humbarawadi and Ajit Patil. Doddannavar and Humbarawadi families have investments in mining and iron works, among other things.
Some local police accompanied the Karnataka and Goa’s commissioner officers during the operation. The officials are examining some documents. The local police are only involved in security agreements, said a police officer.
The IT department has not yet issued a statement on the search operation.
