Amid the exchange of hostage prisoners as part of the Alto El Fuego de Israel-Ahamas, new details have emerged on how Israeli hostages managed to survive in the captivity of the militant group backed by Iran in Gaza.
Gadi Mozes, 80, was among those launched by Hamas on Thursday.
According to a report in the time of Isreal, Mozes remained isolated without contact with anyone during his captivity. He met another Israeli hostage only days before his release.
The news report citing the octogenarian mentioned that he was kept in total darkness, inside a small cell for approximately 70 days. During the war, he was relocated several times, but he was never taken to any of Hamas’ underground tunnels.
His former life partner, Efrat Katz, was brutally killed in the attack of October 7, but had no clues about his daughter, Moran, until he returned. His daughter, who survived the attack, was one of the first to greet him on his return to Israel.
With broken glasses, the 80 -year -olds had trouble seeing for 2 months
The report also said that Mozes was limited to a space of two square meters during most of his time in captivity. He told The Times of Israel that he would spend his time telling the mosaics on the floor and solving mathematics problems in his head. The report also stated that every day, he rits approximately seven kilometers inside his small cell.
When he was being kidnapped, his glasses were broken, leaving him fighting for two months. Finally, a new pair of glasses and two books to read was provided. Meanwhile, Mozes lost about 15 kilograms while retaining him as hostages.
The launch of the hostages on Thursday was tarnished by chaotic scenes.
In northern Gaza, the Israeli soldier Agam Berger, 20, was escorted by Hamas militants through Jabalia before being delivered to the Red Cross. A video showed her emerging from a damaged building before walking towards security. Meanwhile, in Khan Younis, Mozes, Arbel Yehoud, 29, and five Thai citizens were also delivered.
In response, Israel briefly stopped the planned release of 110 Palestinian prisoners, looking for better security guarantees for future transfers.
Hamas launches at 3 Israeli hostages today
Meanwhile, the Palestinian militant group Hamas launched on Saturday three Israeli hostages to the Red Cross as part of the fourth exchange under a high fire agreement with Israel.
Yarden Bibas, 35, and the French-Israelí Kalderón, 54, were the first two hostages to be delivered. A few hours later, the American-Israelí Keith Siegel, 65, was also launched.
Siegel was paraded in a stage established in a port for delivery, becoming the third hostage released on Saturday.
The three men had been taken during the attack led by Hamas against Israel on October 7, 2023, which triggered the mortal war between Israel and Hamas.
